The small town of Dartmouth is located in the south-west area of Massachusetts. The town may look quiet and uneventful, but for me, it holds many important memories, places and people. I’ve never lived here personally, but I’ve visited many times. From being the area where most of my family lives, to housing nostalgia that leaves me yearning for when I was young, Dartmouth is a very important place to me.
This little town is a second home to me. Many important memories that sprout in my mind originate from here. I remember eating sandwiches off the coast in a boat with some family members, and steering the boat back to shore. This was my first experience with controlling an aquatic vehicle. I also recall exploring the countryside and forests of Massachusetts, and seeing a wild deer eating in the swampy lands. I have many memories of it’s nature, but Dartmouth also holds much of my family.
Family is the main reason why Dartmouth is such an important place to me. All of the family living here are on my dad’s side. I know more members on his side, which makes visiting always a fun and social experience. I recall walking down the quiet streets near my grandparent’s house with my two cousins, near dusk. It was cool outside, and trees were loosing their leaves. We were on our way to the docks to get some ice cream together. Another memory I hold dear is a pool party that was held. I had a lot of fun, and rode on giant water floats! These two memories are two of many others.
On a more recent trip to Massachusetts, me and my older cousin had a day all to ourselves. She ended up taking me to a bird conservation area. We learned so much, and got to go on amazing nature walks. We saw small animals such as bees pollenating flowers, and beautiful red-winged blackbirds singing in the long grass on the coast. Another experience I had here was with a whaling museum. It taught guests about the history of whaling in Dartmouth and the whole of Massachusetts, It also gave information on how it was done. It was very eye-opening.
Dartmouth is a quaint little town that may seem bland to an outsider. However, to a regular, per se, it holds many secrets and memories. From its nature and life, to the welcoming warmth of family, Dartmouth is a place that I will always come back to.
